Conero Wine Trekking: an excursion to the cellars of Rosso Conero wine departing from Portonovo
Are you a lover of good wine, and do you like walking and trekking? Would you like to try the famous goodness of the wines produced in the beautiful Bay of Portonovo, and enjoy the beauty of this enchanting area by walking in the open air? We propose a walk that from Portonovo will allow you to reach on foot the most important wineries for the production of Rosso Conero wine. It is a wine journey characterized by the beauty of the colors of the Conero Park, and by the goodness of the nectar of its land. We have created three versions of this suggestive and unique Conero Wine Trekking: two Street versions and one Wild. Depending on the possibilities and the desire for adventure of the wine walker, everyone will be able to experiment with the most appropriate type. You will realize what harmony and gentle union is created, between walking near the vineyards and then savoring the fruit. It might intensify the taste, try it!
Conero Wine Trekking - Wild version
It is the most daring and adventurous type, since it is a real exploration and walk through the meadows, valleys, and hills of the Conero Park. The main feature is the fact that you are always in close contact with nature, and you can even pass close to the vineyards. This path made during the spring, will make you admire the scenic beauty of hills and expanses, with the various shades of green. In the Conero Park in May the green shines like in the Irish Highlands! And then the smells, crossing the fields of this valley, you can savor the smells of grass and flowers. Perfumes and fragrances that seemed forgotten by now will flourish in your mind and in your palate!
Recommendations: there is currently no marked path, and the land in the area is private. It is therefore necessary to be careful in following the natural paths that are on the edge of the cultivated fields, trying not to invade the land owned. It is good to use a navigator or a map that defines trajectories. We recommend that you be guided by an experienced tour leader. We have experienced this type of path, with this concern. We advise you to contact the cellars to schedule visits. Here are the technical characteristics, the wineries to visit and the photographic reportage.
Stages of Conero Wine Trekking - Wild version
From the new Mezzavalle car park, take the roadway that is right above the car park, go all the way down and you will find a small descent that enters a countryside valley. From here, using a navigator, head towards the Moroder Winery. The route will take you through a beautiful valley, where the context will change continuously. We point out the presence of ditches to jump, it is the most adventurous and fun part! The two wineries that we recommend you visit are located close to each other (20 minutes walk). From Cantina Moroder you can pass adjacent to the vineyards, descending through a valley, up to the Cantina Lanari.
Conero Wine Trekking - Street versions
The two street versions of Conero Wine Trekking begin with a pleasant walk on a well-signposted country road, and then merge onto the Conero provincial road. It is a path always characterized by the beauty of the park's views, even if it involves a walk along the edge of a road traveled by cars. We recommend walking in single file on this stretch! This type of tour is also perfectly combined with the use of the e-bike! You can follow the same stages of the 20 km route done on foot.
Departure of the Wine Trekking
The starting point of this suggestive trekking dedicated to lovers of good Portonovo wine, is the new parking in Mezzavalle. In this large concrete open space, you can park. Parking must be paid during the summer period.
First stop: Moroder winery
From the new parking lot of mezzvalle go up the concrete road and you will find on the right a small path that climbs into a very panoramic area that crosses fields. Here you will notice that the panorama you can admire is wonderful: the hinterland of the Marche opens up. Then continue the path that, passing alongside fields planted with sunflowers, will take you to the Provincial road of Conero. Continue straight ahead, paying attention to the passage of cars. You will then arrive to take the road that goes down to the left towards Montacuto. You will easily find directions for the Moroder Winery.
Second stop: Cantina Lanari
Continue to descend towards the Montacuto prison. Immediately after the prison you will find on the left the signs for Cantina Lanari. You will have to go along a gravel road in the middle of the countryside, and follow the signs that will take you to the winery.
Third stage: Cantina Pesaresi
From the Lanari winery go back to the provincial road. From here go straight ahead, passing the prison and always following the main road. At the bottom of the descent, turn left, and do not go up towards the town of Varano, but always keep to the right. A slight climb will take you to the Cantina Pesaresi, you will find it on your right.
Fourth stage: Cantina Angeli di Varano
Continue straight ahead. After all, after the road has made a great curve, you will find the last winery in the Angeli di Varano area.
Now that you have completed the tour of the 4 cellars, go back, but take the road that climbs towards Varano. Compared to the outward journey, to speed up the return, take the slope on the right that leads to Portonovo. After about 45 minutes of walking from here you will find the Provincial road of Conero, and then arrive at the New Parking of Mezzavalle. We recommend that you enjoy the sunset in the place that we have previously reported.
Street Conero Wine Trekking 10 km
The excursion has a halved duration. You reach the first 2 wineries, then go back along the same road as the outward journey. We recommend that you do this type of walk in the afternoon, so that you have time to enjoy the sunset in the place we recommended earlier!
At the end of this route, we recommend that you enjoy the sunset over the meadows at the Portonovo roundabout, perhaps with a bottle purchased in the cellar.
